Goldenmilk is a wonderful drink that helps reduce inflammation and brings with it numerous other health benefits! If you've never heard of Goldenmilk, or never tasted it, you've been

missing out and I would like to fix that for you! In this blog I'll share information about the drink as well as instructions on how to make the paste & the finished drink.

I was introduced to this amazing Ayurvedic blend about 8 years ago and I have been enjoying it's benefits ever since. Made with turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon and a few other ingredients, goldenmilk works synergistically in your body to help reduce inflammation, boost your immune system, improve gut health, lessen joint pain, improve organ function and its even said to improve sleep if you drink it in the evening.

I like to start my mornings out with a warm mug of goldenmilk. I admit I tend to drink it more frequently during the cooler months when a warming beverage in the morning tastes best and warms the body, but in reality, it's benefits make it a great drink all year long. So how does one acquire this amazing elixir? You make it...

First, you will start by making the paste. I have included a full printable recipe page at the bottom for your convenience, but I'll explain the 'how to' in some detail here.

There are a few components that must be combined with the turmeric in order for the medicinal curcumin to become bioavailable...and those are fats. Without the addition of fat, your body can only utilize about 10% of the beneficial components of turmeric. So I like to use a base of coconut oil. I know there are mixed opinions on coconut oil, but I find its beneficial qualities make it a great choice and it's got a very low melting point. The second fat I always add is black pepper. It's funny to think that black pepper is considered a fat, but for this purpose it is, and it is almost always paired with turmeric in a medicinal capacity.

Other ingredients I like to add to my goldenmilk paste are cinnamon (not only does it enhance the flavor, but cinnamon is very useful for blood sugar and blood pressure normalizing). Vanilla extract is another ingredient that makes the drink taste delicious, and of course the addition of local, raw honey lends a hint of sweetness and brings in more anti-inflammatory properties.

The ingredients are combined in a saucepan over medium heat on the stove, and brought to a low rolling boil until the mixture looses it's glossy sheen, which takes about 10 minutes. I tend to whisk mine the entire time it's cooking to be sure it's well incorporated and doesn't stick. After it gets the dull look, I remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly before adding the honey. Once the honey is added, the goldenmilk paste will still be a loose consistency and can be poured into a glass jar. After cooling completely, the goldenmilk paste can be stored in the refrigerator for about 3 weeks, and used as needed,

To make the drink, you will scoop about 1 Tablespoon of your prepared paste into a small stock pot and add 1/2 cup of water. Warm the mixture, but do not boil it. After it's warm, you will add a milk fat of some sort. I like to add 1/2 cup of coconut milk, but you can use regular milk if you prefer, or a plant based milk substitute such as oat milk or almond milk. Just be sure it contains fat.

I prefer to drink my goldenmilk warm, but I have heard that people add it to smoothies. It can also be added to coffee for a different taste. Just experiment with it and see what you like best! I think one of the most amazing things I notice everytime I start drinking goldenmilk again is that by day 3 or 4, my hips and joints don't ache any more. I consider that a big win at age 50!

I have put together a recipe card for you to print. Please enjoy this amazing drink and let me know if you make it! I'd love to hear from you!
